Joseph Gutierrez

Director of Research and Development

Joseph Gutierrez is the Director of Research and Development at Trevity, where he leads the company’s machine learning and artificial intelligence research for cleared, security-compliant government products. He guides these efforts from early prototype through final delivery, bringing a builder’s perspective to some of the most demanding environments in national security.

With seven years in defense, Joseph has built a career at the intersection of cutting-edge research and mission-critical engineering, with a focus on AI/ML across defense, cybersecurity, finance, and real-time systems. After starting out at KWS, he conducted joint research with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency during his graduate work.

Joseph was also Co-Founder and CTO of Ledgre.ai, an AI-native, fully agentic accounting platform he built from the ground up. Under his technical leadership, Ledgre achieved a successful exit, acquired for its intellectual property in agentic systems & Real-estate.

Joseph holds an MS in Software Engineering from Saint Louis University and a BS in Genetics from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, a combination that reflects his drive to understand complex systems, whether biological or digital. His technical range spans machine learning, agentic AI, systems programming, and reverse engineering.

Central to Joseph’s approach is the belief that AI should be practical, secure, and built to perform under real-world conditions. He is driven by turning promising ideas into dependable tools that give teams and missions a genuine advantage.

Outside of work, Joseph enjoys playing guitar, spending time with his family, and doting on his niece and nephew. True to his curious nature, he also spends his free time reverse engineering systems just to see how they tick, a reminder that for him, the drive to understand how things work never really clocks out.
